Fiend Facts:North American & European pressings of Misfits Project 1950 include the above-mentioned bonus DVD but the Japanese pressing does not. The CD distributed by Video Arts in Japan included a rare limited edition 5” vinyl record of the Misfits studio version of “Day the Earth Caught Fire” (on Side A) and an unreleased live recording of Jerry Only performing the song with Balzac in concert in Japan (on Side B).
Project 1950 was the first full-length release from the newly launched indie label “Misfits Records” and the first to be distributed under the deal with Rykodisc (now Rykodisc/Warner Bros) as exclusive distributor.
Limited edition colored vinyl LPs were also released. In North America, the first LP pressing was a limited edition of 1,000 pcs on 100-gram solid blue vinyl. The second pressing on 100 gram PURPLE vinyl was also limited to 1,000 pcs. Both pressings are sold out and long out of print.
A limited edition of 3,000 pcs pressed on neon-green vinyl was released in Europe, which is also sold out and long out of print.
A promotional CD single of Monster Mash from Misfits Project 1950 was pressed and distributed to radio in America. Although the ‘Fits had recorded the song twice prior (once in a live version appearing on the B-side of the 1999 glow-in-the-dark vinyl single as well as the A-Side studio version that would later appear on the CD “Cuts from the Crypt”), the Project 1950 version is the definitive version of Monster Mash recorded by The Misfits. The track charted #1 on radio (as reported by FMQB’s SubModern singles chart) in 2003.
Project 1950 is the highest charting release in the 30-year career of the Misfits. The album debuted on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart at #2 and Billboard's Top Independent Albums Chart at #5. The CD also marks the first full-length release to feature Jerry Only on both lead vocals and Bass.
